Queensferry Crossing

The Queensferry Crossing taken from the shore of the River Forth, more or less on the border between Edinburgh and West Lothian.

Opened in August 2017 after six year of construction, the Queensferry Crossing carries the M90 motorway north across the River Forth between Lothian and Fife.

The bridge was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 4 September 2017, 53 years to the day after she opened the Forth Road Bridge immediately adjacent to the new bridge. At 1.7 miles (2.7km) it is both the longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world, and the longest free-standing balanced cantilever in the world. And at 689 feet, it is the tallest bridge in the UK.

This is also the only place in the world where bridges span the centuries as well as the river. Beside the 21st century Queensferry Crossing sit the 20th century Forth Road Bridge and the 19th century Forth Bridge.
