TweetCastle Campbell sits high on the hillside overlooking Dollar Glen.
Between the 15th and 19th centuries, Castle Campbell was the lowland seat of Clan Campbell, Earls of Argyll. It was burned down by Royalist forces in 1654 in an attack on the troops of Oliver Cromwell, who were stationed there. When the Earldom was restored following the Restoration in 1661, the Campbells chose to live at Argyll's Lodgings in Stirling, though they continued to own the castle.
Today, the castle is owned by Historic Scotland and is worth a visit.
