Born in Killearn in 1506, George Buchanan was a historian and humanist. He was tutor to both Mary Queen of Scots and her son, James VI, and served as one of the earliest Moderators of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. His writings formed the basis for the Scottish Reformation and were influential on the formation of the American constitution.
