Carlingnose Pier, North Queensferry

This is the old WW1 Munitions Pier, also known as Carlingnose Pier, at Carlingnose Point, North Queensferry, Fife, Scotland.

The pier was used for unloading munitions. An electric locomotive running on standard gauge tracks brought the munitions from the pier to a nearby munitions dump, where they supplied the Carlingnose coastal artillery battery, situated on the hillside above the pier. The railway tracks can still be seen on the top of the pier. The battery was part of the defences around the Firth of Forth, protecting the Forth Bridge and Rosyth Dockyard beyond.

The pier was also used to supply the Port Laing seaplane base, which was located in the bay a few hundred metres to the north of here.

Carlingnose Point is now part of the Fife Coastal Path.
